Fidalgo Youth Symphony is a non-profit organization now in its 15th year of offering
orchestral experience for talented young musicians in Skagit, Island, Snohomish, Whatcom counties. The Symphony consists of the Youth Orchestra,
who study and perform the more challenging and advanced repertoire, the
Junior Orchestra who are comprised of intermediate players, and the
Sinfonette which is designed for beginning musicians. The Symphony program is under the musical
direction of the talented and highly
motivating Sharyn Peterson. The groups meet for rehearsal weekly during
the academic year (September-June) and perform four concerts: Fall,
Holiday, Winter and Spring at McIntyre Hall and other venues. Students in this orchestra are the most experienced musicians in our organization, up to the age of 21. They will perform challenging symphonic literature on an advanced level. Junior Symphony This
orchestra is designed to accommodate musicians up to the age of 21,
with a minimum of 2 years private study or permission of the conductor.
They perform intermediate symphonic works and join the Youth Symphony
to create the Festival Orchestra featured at each concert. The Sinfonette is designed for beginning musicians with special provisions and instruction for those without prior instruction. This program is designed to help
introduce young musicians into our larger programs. There is no
audition required. Placement interview with our music director, Mrs. Peterson, and is required for new students entering Junior and Youth Symphonies, and for returning students who wish to advance to Youth. All new musicians interested in joining should contact the administrative assistant, Mrs. Hobson, to arrange for a 15 min. interview that will determine orchestra placement according to their skill level. RehearsalsWeekly rehearsals begin in September and are held every Thursday at The Riverbend Bldg, 205 Stewart Rd., Mt. Vernon. Directions: Take exit 227 off I-5, go west on College Way (towards Lowe's) and at the light turn right onto Freeway Drive. Travel approximately 1/2 mile and you're there! - Sinfonette rehearsals are from 5:30 - 6:30pm Tuition Tuition
for the Junior and Youth Symphony for 20010/11 is $375 per year with
discounts for more than one child per family and for full payment. |
